Amy, 34 years old, shared her story with us to warn others about getting back together with someone who has hurt them before.
She talked about her relationship with her husband, Dan, 36, who she’d been with since they were young. They dated for eight years before getting married. But their marriage was tough, with lots of arguments and Amy suspecting Dan was cheating on her.
Amy found some messages on Dan’s phone from a coworker that made her worry about his loyalty. She confronted him about it, but he denied everything. Even though there was no proof, Amy’s trust in Dan was shattered. She decided to end the marriage because she couldn’t trust him anymore. Amy said Dan’s immature behavior during tough times was a big reason for her decision.
Amy and Dan had been divorced for 3 years, and Amy made sure to avoid him during that time. Even when Dan tried to reconnect by inviting her for coffee, she stayed distant. But fate brought them together again a year ago in a supermarket, where Amy saw Dan with another woman.
Seeing Dan with someone else made Amy feel jealous, even though they were divorced. It reminded her that she still had some feelings for him. Later that day, Dan explained that the woman was his father’s secretary, and he was just helping her because she was injured. Amy believed him, especially after seeing the woman’s injury, and agreed to talk to Dan again. This marked the start of them considering getting back together.
Amy felt a rush of excitement when she saw Dan again after so long. She realized she still had strong feelings for him. They spent a romantic evening together, and Amy felt like they were back in their early days of love.
Dan suggested they go to a spa and then have a fancy dinner, and Amy happily agreed. They talked about their past and future, including the idea of having children. It was a wonderful day filled with laughter and dreams of starting a family.
But everything changed suddenly when Dan unexpectedly proposed to Amy. She was surprised but couldn’t say no to his heartfelt words. Caught up in the moment of love and nostalgia, Amy said yes without hesitation.
Amy’s joy turned to sadness when she realized it was all a prank. Instead of an engagement ring, there was a note saying, ‘You’ve been pranked!’ Tears filled her eyes as Dan laughed and revealed the joke.
“He said, ‘Honey, it was just a prank! I’m not ready to marry you again!’” Amy recalled. In that moment, she couldn’t hold back her anger and slapped Dan across the cheek. “I told him, ‘We’re done. You’re the worst nightmare of my life,’” she admitted, feeling disappointed and betrayed.
Despite Dan’s attempts to make amends in the following month, Amy remained firm in her decision. “I felt sad, betrayed, and angry,” she confessed. “I thought it would be one of the happiest days of my life, but instead, it became a painful lesson.” Amy concluded, “I’ve realized that I divorced Dan for a reason, and now, I’m ready to move forward without him.”
